Gabidulla Abdrakhimov, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board for Operations of Samruk-Kazyna Construction JSC and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of CCGT Turkistan LLP, together with the members of the Supervisory Board, inspected the key facilities of the combined-cycle gas turbine plant under construction that are critical to preparations for the first delivery of electricity to the grid.
The inspection was attended by Ulan Burkitov, Chairman of the Management Board of CCGT Turkistan LLP; Alexey Repin, member of the Supervisory Board of CCGT Turkistan LLP and Senior Manager of the Energy and Mining Assets Department of Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund JSC; and Madiyar Sattybayev, General Director of Integra Construction KZ LLP.
Ulan Burkitov presented the progress of works at the critical-path facilities and showed the areas that are essential to preparations for the first delivery of electricity. The main focus was placed on the Unit 1 electrical switchgear building, the heat recovery steam generators, the operational control point, and the 500/220 kV open switchgear. The electricity generated by the plant will be transmitted to the power system through this integrated technological chain.
At the Unit 1 electrical switchgear building, the participants reviewed the progress of cable installation, engineering utilities, and the implementation of technical solutions. Ulan Burkitov noted that maximum attention is currently being given to this area. According to him, the need to intensify the work has been discussed with the contractors. At locations where it is technologically feasible and safe, the strengthening of night shifts and the creation of the necessary conditions for continuous work are being considered.
The participants then inspected the heat recovery steam generator area. Installation of the final ring of the main stack has been completed at HRSG No. 1, while stack installation is continuing at HRSG No. 2. Equipment, including drums and suspended components, is being installed in stages at HRSGs No. 3 and No. 4.
The members of the Supervisory Board noted the visible progress of construction and installation works at the site. According to Alexey Repin, significant progress can be seen at the key facilities compared with the previous inspection: installation continues at the 500/220 kV open switchgear, the main panels have been installed, and work on the stacks has commenced. He stressed that, if the current pace is maintained, the team will be able to achieve a strong result.
Summing up the inspection, Gabidulla Abdrakhimov noted that CCGT Turkistan is one of Kazakhstan’s key “new generation” projects aimed at strengthening the stability of the southern region’s power system. The project remains a focus of the Government’s instructions. According to him, the project participants have two key objectives - to complete the construction and installation works and to deliver the first electricity to the grid.
“We have two objectives: first, to complete the construction and installation works, and second, to deliver the first electricity. We have toured the site together and can see that the work is progressing actively. I would like to thank the builders and the consortium: despite the weather conditions, people continue to work. At the same time, it is necessary to accelerate the pace, increase the workforce, expand the night shift, and begin preparations for commissioning works now,” Gabidulla Abdrakhimov said.
Madiyar Sattybayev, General Director of Integra Construction KZ LLP, confirmed that all comments and proposals raised during the meeting would be addressed.
“All comments and proposals will be addressed. We will make every effort to recover delays in individual areas. I am taking the issues discussed today under my personal control,” Madiyar Sattybayev said.
Following the meeting, Gabidulla Abdrakhimov instructed the project team to strengthen control over critical areas, accelerate construction and installation works, and ensure the necessary mobilisation of personnel. Particular attention was also instructed to be given to occupational and industrial safety, taking into account weather conditions, storm warnings, the intensive operation of heavy machinery, and the large volume of work being carried out at the site.
