A simultaneous pumping test involving four exploratory wells has been successfully completed as part of the external water supply project for the 1,000 MW CCGT Turkistan power plant under construction. According to specialists, the test results confirmed the availability of the groundwater reserves required for the project. No decline in groundwater levels within the aquifer was recorded while all four wells were operating simultaneously.
The project provides for the drilling of seven exploratory wells, each approximately 300 metres deep, to meet the plant’s industrial, technical, domestic and drinking water needs. Five wells are intended for process water supply, while the other two will provide water for domestic and drinking purposes. Simultaneous pumping tests are carried out after drilling to assess the wells’ combined yield and the stability of the aquifer. During the test, specialists pumped water from four wells at the same time, monitoring flow rates, hydraulic head and changes in groundwater levels.
Individual pumping tests have also been completed on the two wells intended for domestic and drinking water supply. These tests also confirmed the stability of the aquifer in this area. Specialists have now begun processing the collected data and preparing a technical report. Once completed, the report will be submitted to the state commission responsible for groundwater reserves for review and formal confirmation of the exploitable groundwater reserves.
The CCGT Turkistan external water supply project is being implemented in three stages: preparation of the exploration and appraisal project documentation, drilling of the wells, and a comprehensive programme of engineering surveys and construction and installation works to establish the power plant’s water supply system.
