At the Main Building of CCGT Turkistan, the fourth and final Siemens Energy gas turbine has been installed on temporary supports of Unit No. 2. This marks the completion of a key milestone in installing the plant’s main gas-turbine equipment.
Before taking its place in the Sairam District of the Turkistan Region, the turbine travelled nearly 15,000 km: from the Port of Hamburg by sea around Africa, then through the waters of Southeast Asia to the Chinese Port of Tianjin, and finally by road across the entire territory of the PRC—directly to the construction site.
Against the backdrop of a complex geopolitical situation and sanctions-related restrictions, Siemens Energy (Germany), the manufacturer of the plant’s key equipment—gas turbines and generators—removed transit via the Volga–Don Shipping Canal as well as passage through the Suez Canal from the logistics scheme. In 2024–2025, an elevated risk level for international commercial shipping persisted in the waters of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden due to regular attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement on civilian vessels.
The combined assessment of these factors resulted in the selection of an alternative, lowest-risk route: bypassing the African continent and subsequently delivering the equipment to the Port of Tianjin in the People’s Republic of China.
On-site installation was carried out under the supervision of engineers from Siemens Energy, Doosan Enerbility, and Integra Construction KZ. Completing the formation of the plant’s “gas core” brings the commissioning of new capacity closer, helping to address the electricity deficit in southern Kazakhstan.
