Ulan Burkitov, Chairman of the Management Board of CCGT Turkistan LLP, delivered a presentation on the construction of a 1,000 MW combined-cycle power plant in the Turkistan Region at the POWER TRENDS energy conference held in Astana on October 14.
The conference focused on the national project “Modernization of the Energy and Utilities Sectors” and opportunities for Kazakhstani businesses to participate in the industry’s development. Participants included representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Samruk-Kazyna Group companies, including Samruk-Energy JSC and KEGOC JSC, international companies, and industry associations.
During the panel session “Development of Kazakhstan’s Power Generation Capacity: Investment Projects and Infrastructure,” Ulan Burkitov outlined the key aspects of the project:
- Operational flexibility: the plant’s ability to rapidly adjust electricity generation to meet power system demand and compensate for fluctuations in solar and wind power generation;
- Equipment and infrastructure: the equipment being installed and the construction of external infrastructure;
- Phased commissioning: the planned commissioning of the power plant in stages;
- Workforce development: plans to establish a Competence Development Center in cooperation with Siemens Energy and create new jobs in the region.
The future power plant will help reduce the electricity deficit in the Turkistan Region and Shymkent, improve the reliability of power supply in southern Kazakhstan, and provide additional generation capacity to support the region’s industrial development.
